What's REALLY out... Evil at the Zoo

Last time I checked, the zoo was supposed to be a happy place where animals can feel safe and protected. It's supposed to be a place for people to find a connection to animals. When I took a trip to the supposedly "fixed up" San Francisco Zoo, I found that this establishment has completely let down those simple expectations.

The cages are small. The sidewalk is dirty. The gloomy hippo, pacing in his bedroom-sized enclosure, reminds me of a man who is next in line on Death Row. Strangely enough, the slightly-smaller Oakland Zoo does a 300% better job at fulfilling it's promise as an entertaining and educational institution.

Last Christmas, a tiger escaped and killed a man after being teased. I feel sorry for that tiger.
